Child Care Benefit

A Random Header Image

Most families attending Jabiru Kids programs will receive Child Care Benefit (CCB) a Commonwealth Government payment to assist with the costs of child care. The rules about CCB are made by the Commonwealth Government and cannot be changed by Jabiru Kids.

Parents who are working, looking for work, training, or studying are usually entitled to 50 hours of CCB a week. Others are entitled to 24 hours a week.

The amount of CCB paid by the government is an allocated percentage, depending on your means test and the number of children you have using child care services.

Please understand that all families, even those receiving 100% CCB, have to pay a ‘gap’ between our fee and the amount of CCB, because our services cost more than the hourly rate set by the government.

If you have not previously registered for Child Care Benefit and do not currently receive Family Tax Benefit, you will need to complete a written claim for Child Care Benefit. This is available from the Family Assistance Office (usually co-located with Medicare).

If you currently receive Family Tax Benefit, you can register for Child Care Benefit by phone. You will need:

  • Your Customer Reference Number (CRN) from any previous correspondence with Centrelink or the Family Assistance Office
  • Your Medicare Number.

When you enrol your child at Jabiru Kids you need to provide your and your child’s Customer Reference Number and dates of birth.  Jabiru Kids will link you to our programs for CCB.

You can elect to have your CCB paid to Jabiru (which means that you will only pay the ‘gap’ fee), or you can pay the full fee to Jabiru and have your CCB paid as a lump sum at the end of the financial year.

Families who receive their CCB as a lump sum at the end of each financial year will still need to provide Jabiru Kids with the caregiver’s and child’s Customer Reference Numbers and dates of birth.

Families who are not eligible or do not wish to claim CCB must still provide Jabiru Kids with the dates of birth for the child and caregiver.

50% Childcare Rebate
Most families are eligible for a 50% rebate on their out-of-pocket childcare expenses. The rebate is paid quarterly.

To receive the rebate, you must be registered for CCB with Centrelink, even if you are assessed at a 0% benefit. Your service usage information is forwarded by us to Centrelink, so that your Childcare Rebate can be made directly to you.
