Program content
In addition to formal activities each day to meet safety and legal standards such as calling the roll, and sign-in or sign-out procedures the program for every day is designed to meet our content objectives. The programs may:
- Include a special theme or focus
- Encourage and extend children’s existing interests
- Encourage children to select and plan activities
- Provide a wide range of activities to suit the interests, needs, and ages of the children enrolled.
We also focus on:
- Constant attention to the safety and well-being of the children
- Our mission, values, and philosophy
- Children learning through free play and incorporating positive healthy attitudes about play into their lives
- Building the child’s confidence in, and capacity for, participating in a diverse outside school hours community through (for example): sharing in work and play, group planning, decision-making, team participation, opportunities for leadership, forming friendships, and dealing with conflict
- Learning the value of daily rituals which allow us to express feelings and opinions, overcome anxieties, celebrate success, understand rules, give feedback, and initiate relationships
- Activities which contribute to children’s strengths-based understanding of themselves, their family, their peers and their community
- Active and healthy diet and lifestyle
- An inquisitive attitude to knowledge and understanding
- Developing children’s creativity
- A positive attitude towards homework and school
- Use of quiet space and time
- Learning and practising life skills in a safe, supportive, but not formally evaluated environment
- A positive pro-active attitude to the environment and the local community.
