The program at each Jabiru Kids centre is designed to meet these objectives:

  • Formal and informal structure and activities
  • Child-selected and group determined activities
  • Quiet relaxed space and busy active noisy space
  • Active and passive games
  • Age-specific and multi-age grouping of children
  • Intensively supported and more distantly monitored activities
  • Themed activities based on lateral thinking around a topic or idea
  • Familiar structures, routines and rules, together with constant innovation, creativity and challenge
  • Positive, strengths-based interaction with adults and other children, together with an understanding of the rights and responsibilities of being part of a group
  • Short games and activities, together with longer term projects
  • Diverse forms of creative expression that may include visual arts, music, drama, writing, and movement
  • Time for homework
  • Shared meal times
  • Responsibility for contributing to small tasks such as tidying up or setting up
  • Opportunities for older children to work with and support younger children
  • Informally and formally teaching and learning specific age-appropriate skills
  • Visits from people representing community diversity
  • Appropriate involvement of children in food preparation and service.
